Headed to a client this afternoon for an “all hands” meeting so I figured I would take the remainder of the day off afterwards and take the Z for a 250 mile loop around San Diego County. Some good twisty bits in here - particularly the second leg from Julian to Pine Valley - AKA sunrise highway. I’ll try to get a few “car guy” pictures while I’m there.

I do the 100 miles Highway 94 to Potrero ride on my motorcycle. 100 miles of mountains, and two lane twisty riding of all kinds of elevation changes.
San Diego micro climate and scenic views is amazing, from beaches to snow in the mountains within a 45 minute drive. No wonder so many new car launches are done here.

Those are my favorites. It used to be that every year my company had a big wigs meeting up in midway utah in the fall. Pretty much the prettiest place to be in utah in the fall. I used to take an amazingly fun twisty paved road when I had my forester xt, then I started taking the amazing pretty off-road trail in the Land Cruiser. Those conferences were a major job perk for me as they 3 days of were good food, light work and amazing locations. Now we meet in a windowless conference hall and pack it all into a single day.

I love the drive to Julian, and Sunrise highway is beautiful too.

It’s the little perks that go a long way. Pencil pushers always have to ruin it. I’ve done that drive to Strawberry Reservoir a few times, jaw dropping scenery.

It was pretty bumpy and single lane for a few miles - I must admit. The repaved 78 and with no traffic, I could see that being the way to go in the future.

One of these days - before I sell the 997 and move out of San Diego - I need to get around to doing the loop I have been planning for a while...it’s a combination of all my favorite roads.
94 through Potrero to Buckman Springs => I-8 => Sunrise Highway => Mt. Laguna => Julian => 67 to Ramona => 78 to Escondido => Surface streets to Harmony Grove Rd => Elfin Forest Rd => San Elijo Rd => Rancho Santa Fe Rd => Leucadia Blvd, and finish off the route with a nice cruise down the 101.

Sounds like a great loop. 94 and 78 a great bits of road. Have you tried Lyons Valley road east of Jamul? It may be too tight for your liking but it’s my personal favorite .

Haven’t been on it, but it looks like a fun bit of road!
